An open-source design editor called Doory lets users build posters, graphics, presentations and business cards in the browser and export to PNG, SVG, PDF or video, according to its GitHub repository.
The project runs without an account requirement or paid tiers, and supports real-time collaboration, commenting, 27 enter and exit animations, and background removal processed locally in the browser rather than sent to a server, the repository says. It ships as a complete Docker Compose stack built on React 19, TypeScript, Django 5 and PostgreSQL, so a team can self-host it and keep full control of its designs.
The repository drew more than 120 points on Hacker News within hours of being posted and has gathered 383 stars on GitHub. It is released under the Attribution Assurance License, which requires crediting the original author.
Canva's free tier gates templates, exports and brand tools behind a paid plan, and that gap is exactly what a self-hosted, fully open alternative is built to close. Doory is early and far smaller than Canva's catalog, but the Docker Compose stack means a team can run it entirely on its own infrastructure today.
