Magpie, an open source menu bar app, terminal tool and local API gateway, lets developers assign different AI models to different coding agents from one place, according to its GitHub repository. The project has drawn nearly 4,000 stars since its release.

The tool can point Codex at DeepSeek, Claude Code at Kimi, or Gemini CLI at GLM, and routes them all through a single local endpoint that speaks the OpenAI and Anthropic API formats, the repository states. It edits only the specific configuration values a user changes, preserving the rest of each tool's existing config file and comments.

Magpie also shares signed-in subscriptions across agents without copying API keys, saves named profiles of agent configurations, and syncs settings across machines through encrypted S3 or WebDAV backups, according to the project. It runs on macOS, Linux and Windows and is released under the MIT license.

Developers running multiple coding agents end up managing separate model configs, credentials and pricing for each one. A single router that treats the agent and the model as separable choices is a small piece of infrastructure, but it is the kind that saves an afternoon of yak-shaving for anyone running more than one agent.
