Meta released WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, a Model Context Protocol server that lets AI coding agents configure WhatsApp Business integrations through conversation instead of manual setup, the company said in a developer blog post Tuesday.
The server is discoverable on Claude, Codex and ChatGPT, and can handle account creation, phone number verification, Cloud API registration, message template creation and editing, test messaging and webhook configuration, according to Meta's announcement and TechCrunch.
"Getting a WhatsApp Business integration running means moving between the Developer Console, Business Manager, the API reference, and your editor, then pasting an access token somewhere it shouldn't live," Meta wrote, describing the setup process the tool replaces.
Meta said the server authenticates through Facebook Login for Business with limited scopes, requires admin verification before executing tools, logs all operations, and needs authenticated human involvement for any state-changing action rather than relying on app credentials alone.
A companion Social Technologies MCP server handles API discovery and troubleshooting, and developers can use both together, TechCrunch reported. For teams already running coding agents, the pitch is fewer manual handoffs between platforms and less risk of a token ending up somewhere it shouldn't.
