Shadcn-ui released @shadcn/lint, an open-source linter built to enforce Tailwind CSS design system rules that AI coding agents can read and follow, according to the project's GitHub repository.

Standard TypeScript type checking tells an agent that code is wrong but not how to fix it, the repository says. The linter instead ships six rules, including no-restyle, no-raw-colors and no-arbitrary-values, that return a specific instruction, such as using a button's small or large size variant, instead of a generic error.

The tool works with React, Vue and Svelte and plugs into ESLint or Oxlint, reading a project's existing components.json file for shadcn/ui projects or a custom configuration otherwise, the repository says. It requires Node 20.19 or later and is released under the MIT license.

The repository reports that agents using the linter's contextual messages completed tasks with fewer rule violations and 10% to 48% lower correction costs compared with rule-based linting alone. It has drawn 3,200 stars on GitHub.

A linter built for human developers assumes a person can infer the fix from a vague error. One that tells an agent exactly which approved component or token to use instead is a small, concrete example of tooling built for a workflow where an agent reads the error message first.
