Stability AI raised $76 million in a Series B round backed by Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, Electronic Arts, AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures, according to TechCrunch and Variety.

The round brings Stability AI's total funding to $232 million since chief executive Prem Akkaraju joined in 2024, TechCrunch reported. The entertainment company investors follow deals Stability had already struck with UMG, WMG and EA to build AI models using those companies' catalogs and intellectual property, according to Variety.

Akkaraju called the round "an affirmation of our vision where generative AI empowers every producer, musician, and storyteller." The funding follows Stability's launch of Stable Audio 3.0, a family of music models trained on licensed data, Variety reported.

The money will fund Stability's creative production tools and its professional services division, according to TechCrunch.

Record labels investing directly in the AI company they license catalog to is a different structure than the lawsuits that defined the last two years of music and AI. It signals labels see more upside in owning a piece of a compliant model than in blocking one.
