Clerky, an online legal document service for startup incorporation, is joining Stripe, the companies said in a post on Clerky's blog. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Clerky said it will "continue to build on this momentum with the same team and the same focus we've always had," helping startups and their attorneys handle routine legal paperwork. Existing customers can expect the same level of service, plus access to more resources for building new features, according to the announcement.

Clerky said its startups account for 23% of Silicon Valley seed and pre-seed financings and have collectively raised more than $140 billion in venture capital. The company's founders said they were drawn to Stripe's history of building infrastructure startups depend on, noting Stripe has spent more than 15 years doing so.

Stripe has been steadily acquiring pieces of the startup formation and back-office stack. For founders already running payments through Stripe, having incorporation paperwork under the same roof is one less vendor relationship to manage, though it also means more of a startup's earliest legal and financial data sits with a single company.
