An open-source project called VectorCraft is reimplementing Adobe Illustrator in Rust, adding a vector graphics editor to the same team's lineup of clean-room Adobe clones, according to its GitHub repository.

VectorCraft includes the Pen and Pathfinder tools, Smart Guides, live blends, gradient meshes and perspective grids, and renders through multi-threaded SIMD, drawing 20,000 shapes in about 27 milliseconds, the repository says. It imports and exports SVG and PDF, including PDF-compatible .ai files, and runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and the web through WebAssembly.

The project's own documentation estimates about 88% of Illustrator 2026's menu items exist in some form, with roughly 65% readiness for professional work. It has drawn more than 6,500 stars and is dual-licensed under MIT and Apache-2.0, part of the same ArtCraft suite as PhotoCraft, the Photoshop clone this paper covered yesterday.

A team shipping clean-room Rust reimplementations of an entire creative suite, not just one app, is a different scale of undertaking than a weekend clone, and worth tracking app by app as each one reaches the technical bar PhotoCraft already hit.
